I woke up to the sound of rain tap, tap, tapping on the metal roof. Ohhhhhhh, rain today, I thought, as I opened my eyes. I have been enjoying the past few days of sunshine and warmth. But then the thought came, that, into each life a little rain must fall.
I think about the grapevine I had planted in the back yard. It was just a stick when I placed it in the ground . I looked at it every day for a week, watching over it, to see if it would grow. I was a little curious and a little impatient . I wondered if it would grow at all.
Then the rain came and I got busy inside the house with another project. I forgot all about the little stick that I planted out back. After about a week I remembered the grapevine and hurried outside to take a look. To my surprise I found fresh, bright green leaves, spreading out along a new growth of the vine that stretched upwards along the arbor leg.
Wow! While I was inside avoiding the rain this little planting was out here soaking up the rain. It looked fresher, stronger, and it flourished because of the rain. As I ponder on this, I remember the storms I have recently come through. I realize that I too grew a little. I also had my roots soaked . I also was refreshed in my relationship with my Lord Jesus. I grew stronger and closer to him.
I hope to keep this in remembrance from now on; I need to have the balance of sunshine and rain in my life, in order to grow, to flourish ,to be strengthened....
